Usman seems to be the betting favorite and the lines have shown to be in his favor, as well.

A lot of people do not particularly like Covington, due to his personality, and want to bet against him.

Covington has already suggested that Usman has failed his drug test, and that is why the fight was moved to the middle of December. He also stated that Usman is not a real fighter and has only taken care of his sloppy seconds.

I definitely suggest that each fighter deserves to be looked at closely and see how their own bets could work for them.

UFC 245 Main Event Analysis

Below we will cover the current resumes of each fighter to find the better bet at UFC 245.

It is important to know where they are coming from in terms of recent fights, how they match up with one another, and their fighting styles.

Usman

Kamaru Usman is currently on a 14-fight win streak, with six of those fights being knockouts. He has a striking accuracy of 54 percent and a grappling accuracy of 51 percent. He beat Tyron Woodley for the right to the welterweight belt back in March.

Covington

Colby Covington is currently on a seven-fight win streak. He has four wins that have come by submission. His striking accuracy is 38 percent, while his grappling accuracy is 52 percent. His last win was against Robbie Lawler back in August.

Tale of the Tape

Usman and Covington both have the same record. Covington has an orthodox stance, while Usman tends to switch his stance.

The real differences here are their reach and height, which clearly tips in Usman’s favor.

Reach

  • Usman – 76.0 in
  • Covington – 72.0 in

Height

  • Usman – 6-0
  • Covington – 5-9

I look for both fighters to be aggressive, especially Usman. He has the reach and height advantage here. He may want to stay standing with his great striking ability and not even attempt to take it to the ground.

With Usman’s extra four-inch reach, and a few more inches in height, he could easily keep his distance if he needed or throw steady punches all night.

Covington needs to defend well and stay steady. He has a slight disadvantage; however, he could sneak a win here if he turns this into a wrestling match.

If he manages to get the best of Usman in the ground game, then I believe the advantage goes to him. I look for Covington to try and work Usman on the ground in the later rounds and try to earn his points just in case the fight goes to a decision.

Main Event Expert Pick

Official Pick – Usman def. Covington in fifth round via decision.

Betting on UFC 245 will surely be interesting since both fighters are unique in their own right. With only one winner being selected, it most likely could be Kamaru Usman. He has the reach, height, and 100 percent takedown defense to give him an advantage.

My prediction is that this will be a close fight. Covington may look to attack more on the ground and try to get Usman into submission, versus standing and boxing with him. Both fighters also have a lot of gas in the tank to be able to go all five rounds.

Holloway appears to be a clear favorite bet since he is the defending champion. But I would not hold my breath on that one. He is going to have a tough matchup. He definitely cannot sleep on Volkanovski.

Betting on Volkanovski’s last two fights, he was predicted to lose both. He beat those odds and won both of those, so anything can happen here.

UFC 245 Co-Main Event Breakdown

Below we will cover the current resumes of each fighter. I believe that it is important to get a feel for each fighter and where they are coming from in terms of recent fights, how they match up to one another, and their fighting style.

Holloway

Max Holloway is currently on a one-fight win streak. He has 10 wins by knockout and has defended his belt twice. He has 45 percent striking accuracy and 83 percent grappling accuracy. After losing to Dustin Poirier back in April, he quickly won his next fight with Frankie Edgar in July.

Volkanovski

Alexander Volkanovski is currently on a 17-fight win streak. Eleven of those wins came by knockout, and three were to submission. He has 59 percent striking accuracy and 38 percent grappling accuracy. He has been on an absolute tear as of late with his current streak.

Tale of the Tape

Both fighters present some unique features that could help determine favorites for the betting market. Both of them have an orthodox fighting stance. They have similar records and are about the same age, but differ greatly in height and reach.

Reach

  • Holloway – 69.0 in
  • Volkanovski – 71.5 in

Height

  • Holloway – 5-9
  • Volkanovski – 5-5

Look for Holloway to have a slight advantage here. He is taller, and that could offset him not having as much of a reach compared to Volkanovski.

On the other hand, I would watch out for Volkanovski. His fights tend to knock people out, and there is not much of a reach difference to warrant a safe distance in Holloway’s case. If Volkanovski can get close to Holloway, he may have the upper hand here.

Co-Main Event Pick

Official Pick – Alexander Volkanovski def Max Holloway via TKO in 4th round

Betting on the UFC 245 co-main event is one that could be difficult to judge. The odds do not favor in the direction that I think it is going to go. My prediction, of course, is that this will be another close fight.

I look for Holloway to stay steady each round and try to submit Volkanovski. With Holloway having 83 percent grappling accuracy, Volkanovski may have a hard time getting away from him once he has locked on.

On the other side, I look for Volkanovski to try and land some heavy punches and box his way out of this. I think with Volkanovski’s 17-fight win streak on the line, his hard knockout power and kickboxing background will help him secure the victory for the featherweight title.
